What are some of the better mom & pop/hole in the wall joints for quick cheap eats? I'm talking about dogs, burgers, kebabs. I assume good & cheap Mexican will be easy to find. Someone took me to Ted's in Tempe and I was impressed.

Someone told me that tamales were actually hard to find in restaurants and my best bet was to find someone set up on the side of the road selling 'em. Is this true? If so, I'd like to know if there's a hot spot location for tamales. I love those things.

I've recommended Ted's in a few posts here. Now about tamales I would never buy from someone on the street. You will mostly see them around Xmas and a lot of places will have them. For a good whole in the wall mexican try Carolina's @ 12th St/Mohave. Kababs/middle eastern try Habi Baba love the place its in Tempe nearApache/McClintock. Burgers you have to try The Chuck Box near ASU Mill/Unveristy

\Haji-Baba A Middle Eastern Restaurant - Tempe, AZ

Best tamales I have had were from a both at Farmers Market. The place is called the Tamale Store.
I usually e-mail them my order on Saturday and pick the stuff up on Sunday alrady packed up for me.
Menu The only ones I do not like are the dessert ones; they are too sweet. The cream cheese and mushroom is so god, as is the green chilli one and pork one. Man, they are all good.

Around Christmas, it seems like all the kids' families are selling them, so I end up buying from 5 or 6 different kids in my class.

Also, there's a good Greek place in the mall near Kinkos on Ray and Dobson and Nyro's Gyros on Elliot and 48th St is okay, too. They have those Chicago hot dogs (big sellers), which I just do not get how you can put all that stuff on them, but whatever....(only mustard and sauerkraut is the best!! like the real stuff in NY )

Chinese- Closest I can find to NY Chinese is in Sun Lakes on Alma School and Riggs Road. It's Asian Grill.

I agree about the Chicago dog. Lived near there for a decade. It's the most overrated dog around. Too much vegitation and celery salt is the lamest condiment.

For the best, biggest most delicious Calzones around try Floridino's on Alma School and Chandler Blvd. in Chandler. You can get one during their lunch specials with a soft drink for $4.99. That is cheap eats.
