Hi, we are moving to Philadelphia and are a large family(six kids). I want a nice area out of down town, good schools, and money is an object with a large family. We are from California, Fresno specifically. Can anyone point me in the right direction. My husband will be working in downtown Philadelphia. Thanks

Philly is probably cheaper cost of living wise than in Fresno, so if your husband is making something comparable in Philly, then I'm guessing Roxborough or Mt. Airy are bound to meet your needs.

Fresno to Roxborough or Mt Airy is not a good comparison in living quarters.

I believe the suburbs is a better comparison of home values and quality of neighborhoods. The quality of life in my opinion is much better outside the city limits. I worked in the center city region for 35 years and I would never suggest living in or next to the limits of the city....I lived in Newtown Square for most of that time and the homes are upwards of $350,000 to around $3.5m.
For many years Broomall and Newtwon Sq were considered having one of the best school systems in the state in the top 10. If you enjoy school Police patrolling the halls then Philly is good for you.

Philly does have great night life and great restaurants so it is a place for night life....Now let's talk about South Jersey and the casinos....??? hahaha I better not because they are great too
Good luck.

I knew several families with 6+ kids (homeschoolers too) who live in both Media and West Chester

Consider Abington Twp and Jenkintown areas. They are northern suburbs to center city Phila and have good train transportation into town. Also the schools are good and home prices aren't too outrageous. They are nice, family-oriented towns.

Nice place, but I think that West Chester is too long a commute.
