My daughter is getting a job in Blue Bell, since we are not from PA we really do not know the areas. Any suggestions would be helpful.

Ideally, she wants to be in a safe walking area of the city with lots to do. She says she will go out as far as Germantown, Chestnut Hill, East Falls, and just east of the Schuylkill River (between Bala Cynwyd and West Philly, around Conshohocken Ave and Monument Road)

I think she has champagne tastes with a beer budget but we need to start our physical search - and the areas are so broad. She wants designated parking & laundry facilities if not in Apartment then in complex. And needs to stay under $1,000 per month.

I saw an apartment complex on the internet called The Towers at Wyncote that looked promising to me but she thought it wasnt walkable to anything and then I saw reviews that there are alot of students from nearby colleges and lots of partying on site.

Any suggestions or help would be appreciated. Thank you!

Unless she has 2 rooommates, that might be hard to accomplish unless she's willing to settle for sketchy or worse, then maybe. There are parts of Kensington growing that might refer to themselves as Fishtown, and she might be able to find something that might best meet her requirements. Be very careful with Kensington since you're not familiar with the area. Don't go alone, during the day only, and look at the area before you rent.

South St. area could fit her vibe, except I suspect the cost would be much more than what she is hoping for unless she has enough roommates.

Thank you. We are concerned mostly about her safety.

$1k is not very much for something nice, somewhat updated and conveniently located. Bala is going to be more expensive than Philly. The Conshohocken Ave/Monument Area isn't dangerous, and should be more affordable than the Bala side and close to amenities - not quick walking distance, but if you have 20 minutes, there's a Target, Panera, Chipotle, Starbucks, grocery store, etc. all along City Ave.

I would recommend checking the east side of the river. Manayunk and East Falls might have rentals closer to $1k (probably not updated or luxury by any means). Or she could search craigslist and find a room for much less than that. A lot of people rent out rooms in their homes. These neighborhoods are very walkable, convenient to the train, main roads, amenities etc. and are safe. Chestnut Hill is out of the $1k budget, and Germantown is within budget but certain parts aren't considered safe. I don't know enough about that area to comment.

Would that be in a complex or somewhere else? How did you find it? Resources? Thanks!

I was looking for an apartment in a complex that had parking. Found a listing by a realtor on Craigslist and I toured the place and took it. It was a place my dad recommended for me.

I've never thought of or heard of East Falls as being unsafe. I know several people who close to the water and close to Henry and all find the neighborhood very safe. Care to explain?

OP I suggest reading reviews online regarding complexes, and checking out the desired neighborhoods both at day and night time. East Falls has a big newer development off School House Lane, Hilltop at Falls Ridge. They are townhouses with garages and street parking. It's kind of suburban-feeling, but steps away from the rest of the neighborhood. Manayunk has a few of these newer developments too - the Glen at Shawmont Station is quiet and secluded, & Venice Lofts is close to Main St. A new apartment building on Venice Island just opened called The Isle.
