Hunting Park (Erie and Whitaker):

These poor kids are on their first date, minding their own business and a wolfpack pounces on them. Start punishing these kinds of acts HARD and maybe they'll slow down. The slap on the wrist isn't working ...

Strawberry Mansion(2700 West Sergeant):

http://6abc.com/news/man-shot-and-ki...nsion/1872618/

There was a fight at a bar at 2 a.m. in Strawberry Mansion ... couldn't just go home and go to bed and wake up with a black eye or swollen lip, the shooter just had to 'win.'

SW Philly:

Three o'clock in the afternoon, spraying lead around. Real cute.

Kensington (Hope and Cambria):
http://6abc.com/news/police-investig...ngton/1878681/
Another mass shooting ... Because most of these shooters seem to be a bad aim (or are the 'victims' just super lucky?), the end of year murder statistics won't seem so bad and we'll have people celebrating, claiming violent crime is down because "There's six less murders than last year! Yay!" lol
That's why the number of attempted murders (shooting, stabbing, vicious beatings) should be put out there with the actual number of successful murders.

I don't think I will ever understand why you are offended by the fact that 2016 had the lowest violent crime rate in 40 years.

Also you continue to speak in conjecture. They do release all the data. It's right on their website.

This year there has been:

10 more homicides
33 less rapes
21 more robberies with a gun
35 more other type of robberies
7 more aggravated assaults with a gun
16 more other type of aggravated assaults

Which combines to be a 1% increase. Not very good considering we are starting at a baseline of 11 violent crimes per 100,000. There has been a decrease of 278 combined commercial/residential property crimes this year which is a 2% overall decrease in property crimes. You combine those two rates to get the Part-one crime rate which does show a 1% decrease overall.

I'm not offended at all (you most definitely are by the existence of this thread), but I do find it silly when people get excited about 6 less murders (or whatever it was). YAY! I just wish the mainstream media would put the 'attempts' right next to the 'actuals.' We shouldn't have to hunt for them. Calm down.
The biggest drop in murders came when they broke up street/drug gangs.
Why don't you find me the number of murders in Philadelphia in 1950? I can't find the numbers for the 50's and 60's.

Kensington (F and Allegheny):
http://6abc.com/news/woman-shot-and-...ngton/1879934/
Probably domestic ...

BTW, property crimes are decreasing because people are locking their stuff up tighter. I wouldn't get too excited, there's still just as many (if not more) junkie thieves roaming all over the place.

Another murder in SW Philly:

Nothing good seems to happen after 2 a.m.

Feltonville:

Another mass shooting ... A lot of people getting "street cred" out there.

This was an especially bloody Easter weekend. Maybe too much celebrating ...

Philadelphia Murder Rate Up 20 Percent, Police Say | NBC 10 Philadelphia

While the murder rate is increasing, I do not think this has a lot to do with the overall safety of the city... what it has come down to at this point is the fact that the people involved in these crimes have absolutely no respect for life, someone could owe a guy $20 and he'll go out and shoot whoever that person is, petty disagreements are solved with murder, which is such a shame.

Now of course, the recent crime issues in CC need to be addressed, because its embarrassing that you could be essentially attacked in the nicest part of town by a group of thugs (something that would likely never happen in DC, NYC, or Boston).

I just want to see Philadelphia get a grip on the crime and poverty issues, that gives the city a 2nd class status to many outsiders looking in.

Especially given that the tendency with people is to associate Philly with crime. This type of violence happens in every city.

What is remarkable to me is the whole "no rat" culture that we have here. Someone could shoot someone on the street in broad daylight and no one will "rat?"

What IS that?

Kensington (McPherson Square aka 'Needle Park'):

http://6abc.com/news/man-shot-15-tim...ather/1883186/
Fifteen times?! Maybe the victim was an honest, hard working man who was doing all the right things for he and his family ...
All I know is at 5:45 this morning I was sleeping in bed, waiting for my alarm to go off at 6:25 so I could get up and get ready to go to work, not hanging on the steps with my brother.

Far NE Philly (Philadelphia Mills):

Maybe he burned another ...
