Residences, shops eyed for Forum porn theater site

Miriam Hill, INQUIRER STAFF WRITER
Posted: Monday, December 10, 2012, 7:03 PM

The owner of the defunct Forum Theater building hopes to redevelop it into residential and commercial space, his attorney said Monday.

In a declaration that the controversial porn venue at 22d and Market Streets is gone for good, David Fineman said the Forum's landlord, Richard Bastiano, had requested development proposals from "various developers."

Fineman said any new project would not include pornographic businesses.

Both the Forum and a property Bastiano owns at 2132 Market St. could be demolished to make way for new development, Fineman said. Until recently, the property on the 2100 block of Market housed Les Gals, which featured nude dancers and other adult entertainment.

Anthony Trombetta, who operated both the Forum and Les Gals, did not return calls seeking comment. His businesses were licensed in 1975. Trombetta was convicted that year on federal charges of transporting women across state lines for prostitution.

In September, Bastiano's company, STB Investments, sued Trombetta for failing to pay about $29,000 in rent. An eviction notice was issued to Trombetta on Nov. 30.

The Forum was once part of a large section of Market Street that catered to the down and out and the publicly libidinous.

But as Center City began its revival, many of those businesses disappeared, and community leaders developed a strong distaste for the Forum, which served as a sort of seedy billboard for visitors arriving from 30th Street Station.

NICE! A restaurant is going to liven up that small little street joint and maybe make somewhat Walnut and Chestnut retail more connected since there will be more flow of people in between!
I can maybe grab something to eat in the future after I drop my laundry in the dry clean across the street.
What do you think this restaurant will be?

Does anybody have insight as what happens to the Litman Bros. signage on Market East? It has been approved for a while now. When is it going to be erected?

Also I passed by Market East last night and the main area of Hard Rock Cafe is done.
What I like: The black tinted glass window that they used to have are replaced by see-thru glasses.
It is a good way to connect the inside to the outside world (synchronized with the revamp planned to be done by PREIT) .It makes the cafe less exclusive and the glasses makes the cafe more to be an integrated part of hustle bustle lifestyle of center city.

And one brownie point: in the past there was usually at least 3 regular homeless standing in front of the tinted glass facade. One being a disoriented man tried to dress up like a woman. (Nothing wrong with cross dressers, but this man is obviously crazy). And last night, I did not see any of them loitering in front of Hard Rock Cafe!

Now, if they can revamp the Gallery ASAP, I think it will "clean up" the area pretty nicely.
And why don't these homeless people stay in a shelter? Why do they just meander on the street?
And something needs to be done to that homeless big lady that always sits on the front of Starbucks! I would pass the area 4 times within 15 minutes, and she would forgot who I was and asked me for food / money anytime I passed (I gave her sandwich from Xbux one time and she threw it away - like WTF!)
