Default Kimmel Center

The re-construction of the Spruce Street side of the Kimmel Center is coming along. At a minimum it will open up to the street with windows and it looks like it may have some outdoor space. That will certainly enliven a rather dead block right in the heart of CC. Does anyone have any schematic drawings of what it will look like when it is finished? I've searched but can't find any.

My understanding is the two windows further down Spruce from Broad will be a new Garces restaurant with an opening to the street and outdoor seeting.

The part closer to Broad with work I am less certain about. Heard some discussion of a street based box office but unsure

A restaurant with outdoor seating would go a long way on that space IMHO

I really hope that the fund will also include the revamp of the carts. The carts on that line are so dirty looking!

Here's SEPTA's site for it. I've been waiting 10 years for this. I probably have another 10 to go.

King of Prussia Rail
I may be crazy for saying this but wouldn't it just be better to extend the Cynwyd Line to King of Prussia instead of the Norristown High Speed Line? Not to mention the Cynwyd Line would have the benefit of being a one seat ride from Center City to King of Prussia as oppose to having to transfer to the MFL to get from King of Prussia to Center City.

The Cynwyd Line actually goes back across the river into Manayunk/Roxborough - and the part of it past Cynwyd is now a bike trail.

You'd probably have a cheaper/easier time building a spur off of the Paoli line.

I think the NHSL is the preferred method because it already comes really close to KOP and because PennDOT either already owns the ROW or is getting it for bargain basement (The malls know that they need the train).

KOP is a huge retail complex but there are also a lot of big employers, the casino, and a residential component that is likely to grow dramatically over the next 20 years. The ridership profile will likely see the typical morning peaks but mid-day will likely simply level off as opposed to hitting a trough like many RR lines do.

The NHSL is a better mode in part because operating costs are lower, because there are already enough vehicles to service the route, because it can operate at 12 minute headways throughout the day, and because it can serve a lot of stops that are relatively close together. The NHSL is a heavy rail system but for all intents and purposes it's a light rail line. It's much better suited to handle the type of ridership that's expected than RR.

Now, to get really crazy, I always thought it would've been cool if, when they were rebuilding the west philly el, in addition to burying it, that they ran the NHSL in a set of express tracks that only stopped at 69th, 60th, 52nd, 40th, 30th, and 15th
