As impressive as it may be, there should not be a casino two blocks away from three schools. The city's come too far to allow that area to become even worse.

Even worse than what? It's Broad and Vine. If you're gonna do a casino I say do it right. At least Blatstein is thinking big, which is exactly the kind of projects Philly, and especially that location, need.

Sorry... but this is a study argument. What negative effect would a casino bring to these schools? These kids can't go to the casino. Also, this area has so much empty space and is a dead zone all hours of the day. Would love to see some life pumped into this area. I think this is a fantastic idea.

I agree. I'm not a big casino guy, but I'm surprised to find I don't have an issue with this one. Blatstein has a pretty good track record with quality. The fact that this proposal offers entertainment and other amenities beyond gambling makes it much more than a casino, really. That location makes a lot of sense to me, given its proximity to the convention center and I think it would be a nice tie linking between development to its north and south.

Just remember that even the Sugar House had many other aspects that never came to fruition

One concern to me is if in phases it just becomes a hotel and box casino with a parking lot right on Broad

^^^ I know, it's a risk. As I said, I've never been a big casino booster. It's just that there's now this lurking white elephant that was once the Inquirer sitting there empty. It could be the "new Divine Lorraine" at Broad & Vine waiting years and years for a visionary with money to back it up while it becomes a decaying eyesore. I think Blatstein has a pretty good head on his his shoulders based on what I've seen. As a relative newby to Philly, however, I trust those who are able to sort the bluster from those who have really delivered.

The truth is, if I were betting, I think the city will lose this license and the point will be moot. Time will tell.

Apparently someone else with a similar concern that said I am still mulling this as in general a non casino advocate for Philly or PA in general for that matter
