Demolition Upcoming on 3rd Street in Northern Liberties? | Naked Philly

A piece from NakedPhilly. A proposed 5 story building in NoLibs to replace an old warehouse. This IMO is an A+ design, Philadelphia needs these and no more 1900 Arch St and stucco rowhomes.

On a positive note, I have been watching the news and several sports channels in NYC and they all keep raving about what an amazing NFL draft it was, and how beautiful Philadelphia looked. They showed tons of amazing skyline angles. So good news on the national front.

I just hope Philly.com and Mag don't make a negative spin on it.

The only local negative spin I've read about are people who live near it. It IS a pain to have so many things always happen in front of PMA, but it's the only logical place for events like this.

Interestingly while the draft stuff was going on today there was another big protest march in CC.

Even the angles some local writers took to try to be negative about the draft had many positive aspects. It was a huge success. 250,000 attended over the three days, a record.

What a scene for the first round - numerous NFL writers said they've never seen an atmosphere like Thursday night.

A couple reviews:

We did our negative take before it began, courtesy Victor Fiorillo, our chronicler of the stranger side of life here:

Dear NFL: Take Your Stupid-A** Draft and Shove It | Philadelphia Magazine

Then Day 1 came and went (and I found myself in the middle of it all, thanks to a football fan I'm dating).

Our newest staff member, who comes to us from the AP Philadelphia bureau and has an affinity for sports news, weighed in with a more positive item the next day:

Surprise, Surprise: The NFL Draft Is (So Far) Actually A Good Look for Philly (Mostly) | Philadelphia Magazine

I am at best a casual sports fan and at worst indifferent, though I enjoy going to Phillies games when I get a chance and maintain some love for the Chiefs - I did point out to my date the year KC won its only Super Bowl title (in its second appearance in the game: the same two teams played each other in Super Bowls I* and IV, with different results the second time) and explain to him the tale of Big Charlie's Saloon, the 700 level of Arrowhead Stadium, at 11th and McKean.

And - surprise, surprise - I had a good time. (Probably made even better when we decided we should forego the $12 beers and $10-$12 food items and headed to the nearby Cherry Street Tavern instead. A cute Irish-American girl from the Northeast figured us out and chatted us up.)

Overall, I'd say this was a win for the city and worth the snarled traffic (I don't know where everyone was headed at 2 this afternoon at 18th and JFK, but let's say they weren't getting wherever it was at all, and the streets were all blocked off for something or other).

But bless our insecure little hearts, it's not like they don't like us out there nowadays.

*Actually, the very first Supe was simply called the "AFL-NFL Championship Game." It was created as a step on the road to the merger of the two leagues, which took place the year after Super Bowl IV.

Streets were blocked in parts of CC on Sat. because there was a street protest that coincided with the big climate change one in DC.

He is a forward thinker, a breath of fresh air for Philadelphia. I like when architects and developers break the status quo, contrary to what the general public feels is right.

And I am pleasantly surprised the NLNA supported the project I mentioned earlier, due to its height and eclectic design, I figured they would cause a ruckus.
