Don't forget, 'The Cauldron', a "potion" (cocktails) making class is also opening. Nice 1 to 2 punch of similarly themed things to do for a day.

Where is that opening again? I feel like Locust Street or Chestnut Street?

Wow, the Gayborhood will really be a thing of the past by 2025 let alone 2035 if this is Cauldron joint is going in at 13/Locust. Good transit location for the Hi-Speed Line though.

Is everyone ready for the "post-gay bar"?

Frankly, I'd consider that a welcome development, for it would mean that straight men especially have finally become comfortable with all varieties of sexual behavior and attraction.

Sheesh, if I can get a wet sloppy kiss from a drunken woman in Tabu (yes, this happened, at its old location), what's so bad about some drunk guy planting one on another guy? All he has to say in response is "Sorry, I'm just not that into you."

(Actually, Maker's Mark bourbon had a neat banner ad hanging in the entrance of the old Tabu a few years back. It read: "We're a straight Bourbon. But we're open to new experiences.")

In regards to the Center City office market, and nothing being built on spec, I think its much ado about nothing. Yeah, there was a dearth of a construction for a while, thats because of millions of square feet of office space opening within 5 years. Then yeah, not on Spec but all Philly has done is build its tallest building, followed by an even taller one. I'd throw in FMC as well even though its across the river. Compare that to Boston, whose we are frequently compared to, they haven't had that kind of construction in their Financial District.

More importantly, though there isn't CC office built on spec, that does happy in University City and the Naval Yard. CC is fine but, but given its Comcast and a bunch of law firms, I wouldn't expect it to be dynamic any time soon. But University City and The Naval Yard? You bet

We're beyond post-gay bar already and this Cauldron joint is yet another confirmation of it. Gayborhoods, Boystowns etc are ''ghettos'' of the past.

Regardless, wonder if this Cauldron place will be long-lived? Seems geared for kids; but is geared for adults playing with magic wands making cocktails with tickets priced $40-$50. Whatever floats your boat...

I wonder if the drunk lady who you encountered at the old Tabu was straight? Anecdotally, I hear a lot of straight women go to gay bars to have a good time without being harassed by men.

I'm not gay but I'm not sure if the city is ready for a post-LGBT bar...or at least for all such bars to thoroughly integrate. Not because I don't want it to happen...but because too many people (especially "Ts" of color) are getting harassed or worse on the streets. Trans people, from what I understand, aren't even always welcome in gay bars. I'd think LGBT bars still serve as a haven for those who identify while supportive straight/cis people would be welcome.

That said, if it weren't for the rainbow flag appearing on street signs and certain businesses making their intentions known, it would be harder to tell that the Gayborhood exists anymore. Certainly it's not all LGBTQ people paying those high apartment rents and mortgages in Washington Square West and Midtown Village.
