^ Indeed, a very good resource!

Center City hotels doubled room revenue in 2021 but face a long road to full pandemic recovery

https://www.bizjournals.com/philadel...tels-2021.html

"Center City hotels saw sizable increases last year in all key performance metrics, including occupancy and revenue per available room, as the recovering leisure travel segment carried the local tourism industry."

"There were 2 million room nights sold at Center City hotels in 2021, a 71.6% spike from the 1.16 million room nights sold the preceding year when the Covid-19 pandemic first hit locally..."

"There were 4.88 million room nights in supply last year, a 30.6% increase versus 2020 as more properties came back online after temporary closures and a handful of new hotels like the 755-room W/Element and the 208-room Live! Hotel Philadelphia debuted in the market."

"Despite the strides in recovery, Philadelphia’s hotel sector still has a long way to go to return to its pre-pandemic prime of 2019, which was widely considered to be the best year on record for the city’s then-booming tourism and hospitality world."

"While hotel room supply in Center City increased 4.5% in 2021 compared to 2019 because of the newly opened properties, demand still paced 44.2% behind overall."

the office of innovation and sustainability is supposedly rejecting the design picked by the public for the Washington Ave. project. Just can't win anything in this damn city.

Life science development shows no signs of slowing down!

Chicago and N.Y. development firms plan new lab-and-office tower in U. City life-science hotbed

https://www.inquirer.com/business/st...-20220201.html

"A consortium of Chicago- and New York-based real estate developers plans to acquire land at 38th and Chestnut Streets to build high-tech offices and labs in a bet that University City will remain an epicenter for the nation’s booming life-sciences industries."

"Sterling Bay and Harrison Street of Chicago and New York-based Botanic Properties are forming a venture to acquire the 3801 Chestnut St. site, currently home to Abner’s Cheesesteaks and other shops, for development into a 13-story, 310,000-square-foot office tower for life-science tenants, the companies said ahead of a planned announcement of the tie-up Tuesday."

"“Philadelphia’s academic institutions are some of the most innovative research institutions in the world, and so we are just very excited to have the opportunity to develop a facility in what we consider to be one of the strongest markets for life-sciences growth,” Suzet McKinney, Sterling Bay’s director of life sciences, said in an interview Monday."

I really can't wait for 3025 JFK to start getting a bit taller. I feel like people are underestimating how much of a presence it's going to have on the skyline due to it's position kind "behind" the FMC and Cira Center. Brandywine also loves lighting up their buildings so hopefully it glows bright.

And it will put that lunch wagon he bought when he announced the Wayne Junction project to use at last. (It was to have been a freestanding diner, but the rubble from the building that had stood where the parking lot is now wasn't stable enough to support that extra weight.)

Do you ever pop into Attic Brewing next door? Up there with Uncle Bobbie's as one of the best things to have happened in Germantown in a while.

There's some very strange quotes from the Owner of Attic brewing in this article though, and it's definitely making me think twice before ever going to again.

Quote:
To Lacey, the roughly 45,000-square-foot lot — and the neighborhood — would be best served by business, which she said would help solidify the area as a destination for locally driven shopping and entertainment, but also a source of well-paying jobs, something the low-income neighborhood could really use.
A classic "NIMBY" quote. "Why do we need nicer places to live if poverty and hunger haven't been solved yet?". Like do woke saviors actually believe blocking a residential development will enhance economic development? News Flash: It doesn't.

Quote:
Why use the Diner lot for apartments? Apartments can go anywhere, she said.
“Our goal was that when people would come and visit Philadelphia and they’d ask their hotels in Center City, ‘Where do I need to go? What should I see?’ That we want them to say ‘You should totally take a trip out to Germantown. Attic Brewing Company is out there and it’s amazing. You can rent a bike. Check out a historic site. There’s always live-music,’” she said.
....Another absolutely strange quote given we are talking about a blighted lot and a parking lot being developed. Imagine a concierge in Center City being like "nope, the blighted lot is gone. Don't want to go there anymore now that it's nicer"

Quote:
For Lacey, her vision for the neighborhood puts her at odds with Weinstein, her landlord. Two years into her five-year lease, she said she’s not sure what she’ll do when time is up. At the moment, she can’t afford to move the brewery.
“It feels a little bit like David and Goliath,” she said. “We’re up against somebody who has all the money and resources and unfortunately we’re in a position where they believe what they’re doing is right, and we just kind of feel like we have to go along with it.”
And the ultimate kicker: They have only lived in the neighborhood for TWO YEARS. Like imagine moving somewhere that has been economically impovershed, making money off of a "cool and hip" craft brewery for a few years, and being like "yep, no one else can move her because it might disturb the neighborhood that I love so much". It's a level of egotistical narcissism that is repeatedly displayed by people like this. I find it baffling WHYY can write story after story about NIMBY concerns and never ask the simple question "Are you sure your complaints aren't just based around the free parking lot your customers currently enjoy?"

Wayne Junction is quietly booming. Can it last?
