My fiance and I are planning to relocate to PA,we are looking at the Doylestown area and surrounding areas. My fiance is a paramedic and we wants to work in Philly...I have heard that Doylestown is somewhat expensive...are there any other surrounding towns that are more affordable yet nice. We are looking for a nice family oriented neighborhood...and a community or town that has tree lined streets and houses with nice large yards. We will be renting to start off and prefer a single family home, not a townhouse or duplex or apartment. I have done some searches onlline and it seems that there are lots of those type homes(townhomes, duplexes, etc.) If anyone can give me an idea of where to look and the towns that we could check out. Looking for that small quaint hometown charm.

If you want to work in Philly you don't want to go out as far as Doylestown. Too long of a commute. Doylestown is a great town but not worth the heinous commute you would have. Try looking at Collegeville area. Skippack village is quaint, brand new shopping center, etc. Or Jenkintown if you want a more formal downtown, with train access to city. You cannot determine your commute by miles. Rush hour traffic here is a killer.

Thank you for the information. I will definitely keep that n mind. Actually just researching all areas. Would like to find a nice town that is affordable with regards to rent. A town that is somewhat along the lines of a country setting, but has neighborhoods with the tree lined streets, but yet is convenient to a downtown. Any and all info will be very helpful in our search.

I would not consider Doylestown affordable. Most rental houses are in the 1,200 to 3,000 price range, but it depends on what you need/want.

Did you check out Souderton or the area just over the Buck County in Montgomery County? Slightly more affordable, and you do not want to commute down 611, so it may even be less of a drive.

Or what about the outskirts of Pheonixville? We live in the next town out from Doylestown (Perkasie) and it takes about 1-1.5 hours to Philly! We are on a nice street, but I feel VERY far out from everything! I'd be happy to share lots more info with you!
