Everytime I have been to Philly, I always get the NYC feeling. The city can indeed qualify as the "6th" borough.

Agree?

Depends on where you are. Some parts of the city definitely give that kind off that kind of a vibe... maybe around Center City. Beyond that though I would have to say no. Philadelphia is its own city.

The OP seems to have no idea how insulting it is to labeled the 6th borough... Philadelphia has a very different local culutre; we have different customs,a different dialect, different demographics, different politics, etc. For all we care, NYC is just some part of the Far Far Northeast, somewhere beyond Pennypack.

I do think that Philly and NYC (and probably some of the larger North Jersey towns) share a similar gruff "attytood" where a newcomer may have to earn some trust before becoming welcomed as a "friend for life".

It's also true that an increasing number of NYC expatriates have moved to Bucks County and Center City to be able to live the lifestyle they desire while enduring a long commute up north.

But no, Philly is not the sixth borough. Native Philadelphians, especially sports fans, would indeed see that as an insult.

I'm not angry, I'm from Philly
it's the same for NY. I wouldn't just say "it takes a while for outsiders..." it's more often that outsiders think you're being rude when you're not. It's worth noting, that train service used to be much better than it is now, and it stands to reason that there used to be more, not less commuters to NY. that doesn't make it the sixth borough.

I can see how someone would feel like they're in Manhattan being in Center City because is has that pulse of a Manhattan....

But people wise Philly and NY are two totally different cities....Philadelphia has none of that Fake/Pretentious of a NY, Philadelphia is not Glitz and Glamy with Red-carpet events (I love that about it btw)....There is a strong Middle Class in Philly, you can afford most of what the city has to offer, you dont have that feeling of being priced out of what makes the city great....

In short

NYC - Very Arrogant and Elitist
Philadelphia - No Arrogance
