Leaving them here is just really not going to work unless I cut my trip down substantially. I was looking to go for 15 days. At a cost of atleast $55 a day, I'd be looking at $825 just for boarding. Not to mention the stress of constantly worrying about my little one. I am just really not sure yet!
Finances are a good excuse. Just curious. What type of relationship do you have with your ex?
My sister and her ex continued to care for the dogs jointly after they divorced. Can your dogs stay with their 'father' -- your ex?
I don't think it was cold hearted. The dog will survive for goodness sake!
it may survive, but not happily.... and would likely be traumatized......
i know that bailey would NOT do well in a boarding kennel setting..... i have at least 2 backups for her if i have to travel and she is not able to go with me..... which is a rarity.......
I, personally, would not put my dog on a plane. My friend, who is a vet, won't unless she knows for sure what the air pressure and temperature will be in the cargo area. I have had luggage lost and it didn't turn up for days so I wouldn't trust an airline with my dog. I love my dog as if he was my baby but I send him to a doggie resort when I go on vacation.
I say choice #2 and last resort choice #3. If you go slow and stop on the way, nothing will happen. Go early in the day and you'll get there early next night. Np. Most scary moments are like during the wee hours.

A toddler would survive if you left them in 24 hour daycare for two weeks while you went on vacation, too. I can imagine the response I would get if I suggested someone do that.

Great point. Obviously, having the dog only "survive" and not it's comfort or stress level is what is important to some. I agree...extremely coldhearted.
