Fundamental mindset? I would disagree with that one. I don't see anyone stating that here. If people are willing to take care of unwanted pets and give them good homes, I see nothing wrong with that being eligible for a tax deduction.
Ok, looked to me like it was nothing encouraging adoption or fostering but rather a blanket deduction involving those people who itemize taking off for any pets.

Just seems to me we are continuing to postpone a lot of debt and placing it on the shoulders of our children and grandchildren. There are a lot of other things that people do because it is "right" that they don't take off for or even get to.
