I'm astounded when I see pictures of cats with birds on their heads, etc. There is even a famous picture of a cat on a dog, a rat on the cat and a bird on the very top.

Why doesn't this cat haul off and really smack this annoying bird? Do birds and cats get along as well as most dogs and cats?

Parrot relentlessly bugs cat. [VIDEO]

The person videotaping that is stupid. One swipe and that bird is dead. Cat saliva kills birds.

People will say their dogs or cats love their birds and will never harm them, but take a look at any bird forum and count how many dogs and cats killed their beloved bird "friends". It's an accident waiting to happen.

If the bird and cat in that video were mine- I'd be worried. The bird is going to **** off that cat and it will be all over.

I have a larger parrot and the bird and cat respect each other. They are not buddies and don't play but they don't antagonize each other either.
However there was one time the cat was napping on top of the bird cage and her tail slipped down and it got a chomp. The cat was sure to curl her tail in after that.
The cat knows this bird is not a typical 'yard bird' and after the tail incident, she is well aware of the pain the bird is capable of inflicting.

I don't think all cats or birds are able to safely get along. One has to really know their animals before trying to make them get along.

Our cat is afraid of the cockatoos or she ignores them. They can stand an inch form her and she will just lay there, or run away. She is very interests in dining on the finches though.

My mom used to have a parrott and a cat and although they werent friends, as another poster mentioned they did respect each other. You have to be very careful with birds and cats because cats can kill a bird on accident, even if they dont mean to.
