This is a bit of an inane question, but...how far west do you have to go in Pennsylvania before they start saying "pop" instead of "soda"?

I know people say "soda" here in Williamsport and down in Harrisburg, and they say "pop" in Pittsburgh. But where's the line? What do they say in State College? In Altoona? Erie? Anybody know?

Hope this lightens the mood around here a bit.

It's most likely an eastern/western thing. In the eastern part they say soda(and do they drink alot of it!)...but I knew a girl near Pittsburgh that called it pop. I thought she was just old fashioned

All my relatives in West PA call it pop and as a military family moving all over the USA, we called all soda "coke" which they found quite amusing. Up here in NC PA I always hear soda.

Until I was 10 I lived in the Chicago area until my parents moved us to the Philly area. I asked for a "pop" one day and everyone looked at me like I was from another planet.

It's interesting to note that all I have to do is drive over to Potter County to get myself a "pop"!

I grew up in western PA. and we always said pop. I moved to eastern PA after college and learned to say soda. I've been back in western PA. about 14 years now and I still say soda. It seems to me, at least in Erie, that as many people say soda as say pop.
