Heard that there are some summer happenings in Centralia this summer, apparently there are more and more tourists curious about the town, it's history, and they want to see it. Township planning events to raise funds for the area? Tours that describe town's history and a National Park designation that will showcase the towns history in film, similar to the facility near Johnstown, a National Park theatre at the location where the dam broke and flooded Johnstown. Anybody else hearing this about Centralia?

nope.

Quite frankly I find it hard to believe. It's too dangerous just walking there. Unless it's a way to control the curious? Dunno.

I work in Central PA and there seems to be this unending curiosity about Centralia. "The town that was", conspiracy theories about strip mining the area when the last of holdouts are gone, but all kidding aside [of which there has been much], it is a tragedy that unfolded over many years. For those of us who used to drive through there on a regular basis, who knew former residents, who marveled at the resistance mounted against moving or shuttering their town, Centralia had it's own identity, several generations of immigrints raised their families there and it's still shocking to see the town smoking and leveled in it's current state. When you pass the crest of the mountain and descend into Centralia, it's hard to see that not much is left except overgrown side walks, detour and danger signs.
