I had to laugh at this one as mine is the day after Christmas. When I was younger my parents let me "switch" birthdays with my dad whose b'day was in June. Had a great party and lots of fun! Then came December and I reminded everyone about my birthday! Yep my parents forgot and I got two birthdays that year! Oh my...does that make me a year older now?

But there have been times when I did celebrate my birthday in June as there is so much going on around Christmas time that people just are tired by the time by day comes around.

Celebrating 1/2 birthdays though such as 5 1/2 is totally ridiculous! I think if I was even invited to a party for that I would refuse.

my mom and her good friend have December birthdays. They go out together to celebrate every summer! I think it started as one of those things where you try to find a date that works, and before they knew it, 6 months had passed. They do it every year. But they aren't celebrating their half birthdays.

Geez - I thought this was only about school - So the teacher doesn't have to deal with all the summer b-days celebrating on the same day in June.

Who cares what people want to celebrate -At least they are happy and enjoying themselves -If people want to give me cupcakes on their 1/4 birthday so be it!

I have a summer birthday...and no half birthday....(august has 31 days and February only has 28. and my birthday happens to fall at the end of August). I LOVED having a summer birthday. I got to have pool parties and BBQs. I liked to celebrate my birthday Labor Day weekend so everyone could come over and have a big party. I felt like the luckiest girl in the world to have such a cool birthday growing up. Since school starts the last week in August sometimes I would have my birthday on the first day of school and I also felt so special as that school chose to start on my birthday. Thus making it extra important.

I think if my birthday was on christmas I would have the same mentality. I would think my birthday was the MOST special fun day of the year. SO fun that everyone else gets presents too!!!

Just think, all those kids in July and August never get to hear "Happy birthday" from teachers or school chums (unless they are friends outside school).
School always started about a week before my birthday. Normally I'd say half-birthdays are silly, but when I was little I'd have loved a cupcake for my birthday too.

I think we should celebrate birthdays in monthly increments. Celebrate the 1st at 10 months, and then 20 month increments. There would be fewer and thus be more meaningfull. Plus, we'd all be younger. Next week, I'll be 564 months old. I was 500 months old 63.9 months ago. Looking forward to 1000.

See. I'm only 28.

Eh, you'll never get this country to switch to base-10. We've been resisting the metric system for years!

That's the case in our family, too.
