DENVER -- A Colorado Springs lawmaker referred Wednesday to unmarried, pregnant teenagers and the teen fathers as "sluts" who should be made to feel ashamed for their lack of morals.

Rep. Larry Liston's remarks were made during a discussion with health care professionals at a Republican legislative caucus lunch about Colorado's high teen pregnancy rate.

Perhaps using that word was not appropriate, but far too many young people view sex as a casual 'everybody does it' kind of thing.

Whether this has to do with upbringing, society, or a combination thereof, I don't know.

Premarital sex SHOULD NOT be condoned by society- if for health reasons alone. Underage sex has been a problem for decades, and no, I don't have the answers, but yes anything we as a society can do (even if- God forbid- calling them names) keeps their legs together is part of the solution.
