I notice public shaming is mainly the domain of minority parents, especially trashy ghetto ones.

Yeah, that guy who shot his kid's computer sure was minority. <sarcasm>

I said mainly, not entirely. He is the only exception as far as race, but definitely of the same trashy thread as these other parents.

When (as a parent) you take the social media route, you put yourself at the same level as the child. You can no longer be the mentor, guide, teacher, or leader, your child needs. You become just a rival, or opponent. And can't win in that role.

Parents in general are way too loose about what they put on social media about their kids. Every embarrassing photo, every misstep, it's all just casually tossed online for every schoolmate, future employer, internet weirdo to look at. One of the advantages we have as adults is that we can largely control our own online footprint. Most people are not used to the white hot glare of the full internet. It is actually sort of terrifying to be involved in something that goes viral. Nine times out of ten these kids haven't even done anything so serious that it warrants being totally scandalized like this. Well, now the grieving father is getting harassed and shamed and having his own life threatened. I cannot believe he served up his own daughter for some of that treatment before she died. I'm sure he regrets every moment.

Parents should realize that what they post publicly about their kids could come back to haunt them 10-20 years later.

Couldn't rep you again nana053. He was a Good Ol' Boy if I ever saw one.

Who is it again who is constantly bringing up race?

Not only is it not appropriate to shame your kid on social media, everything I have seen has also been stupid parenting (shooting xboxes, sledgehammering laptops, etc).
