I don't know if this is the right board, but I just want to share my experience with others.

My mother always seemed to have the right stuff at the right time, or just knew how to get it. From little things, like the right needle and thread, to major things, like finding a GI surgeon on New Year's Eve for my grandfather who had a bursted intestine. For my wedding, the comb fell out of my veil just minutes before the ceremony. Mother had brought a sewing box and got it sewed back on in a jiffy. For her, the difficult took time, the impossible just took somewhat longer. When all else failed, people turned to her. She would just laugh and say "Mother's magic still works"!

Mother has been gone 20+ years. I did dispose of most of her items, but I kept some as well. One of the things I kept was her pin cushion, the kind like a tomato. I never moved the pins, etc, realizing her hands had placed them. Ok, yesterday, my DD work badge broke, just before her shift. I knew I could repair it with a safety pin, but only had small ones. Then, I remembered the tomato pin cushion. Sure enough, right there was a big, nice, sharp safety pin, not the "baby" kind with a large head, but the "discreet" kind, that you can pin from underneath and it doesn't show. It had been in that pin cushion for 20+ years. I removed it, and it worked perfectly, no one even noticed!

Mother's Magic still works!

What a lovely story. I miss your mother just reading it, and I did not even know her. I feel thankful that you got to have her and sad that you must miss her.

Thank you for sharing.

I agree that it is a truly beautiful story. Your mother's magic is still with you and your family.

When you read the title of this post and take 'Still' as a noun rather than an adverb.. It totally changes the expectations.

I was wondering why a discussion about moonshine would be in a parenting forum..
