Will your child be successful because of the school they went to?

Will your child be successful because of your parental involvement along the way?

Will your child be successful due to good genetics?

Will your child be successful because they hung out with the right crowd?

I know everyone will have a different definition of success but it seems some put a lot of emphasis on one certain factor.

The more their parents post in here, the more successful they will be.

My daughter has a bright future in commissioned sales. She could sell snow cones in the Antarctic. Natural talent no one had anything to do with.

No

Maybe, but it's almost certain they won't be successful if the parents AREN'T involved.

Maybe, maybe not. One thing that is certain is that an unintelligent, unathletic, ugly person has a very small chance of success.

Maybe, but probably not. Easier to say they won't be successful if they hang out with the WRONG crowd.

In my opinion, it's easier to say why someone WON'T be successful rather than why they will be successful. It's pretty easy to be unsuccessful, but a number of things have to happen for there to be success.

By my definition, my children will be successful if they grow up to be productive, well-behaved, curious, considerate, honorable, balanced adults.

Most of that's on me. The teachers will help. The peer group will help. The types of "entertainment" they are exposed to will help.

But mostly, it's on me.

I have known kids who lived in total dysfunction and grew up to be successful because they were driven by that. They wanted to overcome the obstacles faced while growing up that way.

Then again, I have known kids who were supported, loved, encouraged, etc and still made messes of their lives.

They'll be successful because of all those factors. Who says you can't have it all? Declare success over your children's lives and successful is what they will become.

Here in Jersey people OBSESS over the freaking schools. I always believe that parenting > schools (unless the schools are so rough that learning is hindered by gangs, thugs, and parents that don't care in the majority of the population)

I went to a top tier school when I was a youngster. My wife went to school in a poor area of NJ. She is more successful than me.

GRIT determines a great deal of success. This is worth the few minutes to watch.

What matters for a child's future isn't IQ. It's this.
