Our school does recess BEFORE lunch, this is fairly new, it use to be right after lunch.
They feel the kids are less " wound up" when they return to the classrooms if they play before they eat....

The K,1st & 2nd graders also have a 15 min. Morning recess as well.

Wouldn't it be nice if the children had P.E. more than once a week? My school is quite large and students only get each special once a week. Ugh.

Yep, that is what the Supreme Court has ruled (inclusion vs. exclusion). I'm a music teacher and I teach songs of all cultures because I think it is important. Besides, how can you teach music without having any religious music?

Every elementary school here has lunch and then recess. I'm in Texas. Of course, sometimes lunch is pretty early. My 5th grade granddaughter this year has lunch at 10:30 am (I think) and they don't have any recess at all, just PE. She has PE at the end of the day.

My second grade grandson has lunch at 11:30 to 12:00 and recess from 12:00 to 12:20.

The schools are outrageously large here and they have to fit in a lot of classes.

Way back when I was in school half the school ate at one time, then played for probably 20 minutes or so. My kid's school eats one grade level at a time, so one class is eating lunch at 10:55 am. I'm not sure when the last one finally finishes. they eat for 15 minutes then have 20 minutes of recess. They have an additional recess in the afternoon.

I hate the idea.

I think schools go overboard with policies like this. Is it the end of the world? No, of course not. But I find not everything in life must have a purpose beyond just having fun and socializing.

Sounds like your grandchildren's school schedules better than our school. Last year my daughter had lunch at 1pm. They get out at 2:45.

My 2nd grader has recess in the mornings but her teacher won't take them outside because it's too hot.

Each class in our school is on a different schedule.

PreK and PPCD (1 class) eat lunch at 10:15 - 10:47
There are 6 Kindergarten classes that eat during that time as well.
First grade has 6 classes that eat from 10:50 to 11:23
Second grade has 6 classes that eat from 11:25 to 11:57
Third grade has 6 classes that eat from 12:35 to 1:06
Fourth grade has 6 classes that eat from 12:00 to 12:33

Each class has a recess after their lunch for about 15 to 20 minutes.

We have about 700 to 750 students in this school.

Please let's focus on the topic, as the OP did not intend this to be an Education thread. Cupcakes in school, yea or nay?

Mmmm, cupcakes.

I think it is great. Our society is too hyper focused on food, especially where kids are concerned. Every get together, success by six, school events... has a snack or food component. I would love it if there was a lot less food at various social engagements. But even barring that, school is not primarily for socialization. It is for education.

Cupcakes! Yay!

But not if the school says not to.

Move on!
