Love it. My granddaughter loves creating art with toilet paper rolls and paper towel rolls. We had a big box that was a boat, a car, a plane, a house, etc. until it finally got too broken up for the kids to play in.
It's always a very sad day when the box collapses.
Duct tape will extend the life of a box by days.....:-)
After trimming many low hanging branches from a large tree one spring all the kids decided to see what they could do with them in the front yard.
My kids have always been able to play outside in the dirt/mud/rain/snow etc...and on this day the extra kids from my home child care joined in the fun.
Here's just one pic of one thing they created.
Great list. My daughter had an active imagination and could make a box a magical thing. When my son was 3-4 he was playing in a box and I asked him what it was..."a box" he said. He's always been very literal. Hahah.
All those things: Stick, string, dirt, box and tube are what makes for a good time as a child. We didn't have much growing up. We had to improvise.
I agree!!!Not only do children have fun with these toys, they also help them develop imagination. I'm so tired of walking into a store and most of the toys are some electronic crappy toys that kids just press and "wait till it does something". I met a lot of kids nowadays that absolutely have no imagination. I truly believe toys nowadays are a big reason for it. The other day, my mother-in-law was holding a regular doll ( not talking one ) in front of my daughter, and my mother-in-law said "How are kids supposed to be entertained when this toy isn't making any noise" My husband and I told her that she's supposed to have her imagination and that will entertain her...I sometimes get so frustrated with my mother-in-law because she gets her a lot of toys, but they're all toys that in our opinion, are useless. Under our Christmas tree: big lego blocks, finger paints, ball etc.I remember sitting back in a days with a stick and "writing" stuff in dirt...good times...

Hypocore, what they created is very close to the shelters some Native Americans created here in the Southwest. Pretty cool!
(Duct tape itself could be put on the "best toys" list but many parents would probably object to having to constantly unwrap Junior from the kitchen table leg his brothers have duct taped him to.)

It was very cool! They also created two 'home bases' from which they launched twigs from at each other and stuck flags in that the others had to steal...They created a pathway in which to walk under as well.
Disappointment set in when the branches had to be cut further and disposed of later....ah well
There are days I'd like to duct tape them to the wall. :-)
