If overindulgence is their only fault, that is manageable. Endless streams of unsolicited advice, or a lack of interest are much more difficult to cope with IMO. If the overindulgence is a certaintly, talking about it is all you can do, and chanelling. Ask them to pay for extracurriculars when the child is older, regular professional photos, college fund, etc.

Oh. Well, everyone (friends, family, strangers, etc) has already started with the endless streams of unsolicited advice. That's easy. You just smile and nod. And sometimes it's actually good advice.
