Just have to brag here for a bit as some have been following the saga of my son and his quest for a PhD. he defended his thesis yesterday and did a wonderful job. he is now officially Dr No Kudzu. Well something like that. He has landed a very difficult to find post doc in his very narrow field of physics but it means he will be in Singapore for 2 years.
This is a young man who has known since he was 6 years old he wanted to study physics. i still have his first grade project "My Book of Grabty". Of course he was trying to spell gravity and I'm sorry to say his spelling has not improved too much since then!
He has made many sacrifices on his way to his life long dream. Very poor, no car, lost 8 year love due to career conflicts and he recently turned down a job offer of $130,000 salary just to make about a third of that to study with a particular scientist in Singapore. I've never seen anybody so single purposed. Anyway I am a proud Mama but I will miss him so much while he is away.

Congratulations to the new Doctor (and his parents).
Congratulations, No Kudzu and newly minted Dr. No Kudzu! I love to hear when people succeed at their lifelong dreams from working hard - no wonder you're proud!! All the best for the post-doc (and I hear Singapore is lovely this time of year......)
