How much do/would you pay to have your elementary child tutored in math?

I think the main problem the child is having is understanding the steps

Last summer i Paid $360 for 8 1hr Session in Math for my rising 8th Grader. (With his 7th grade math teacher) thru a tutoring agency. Since his 8th grade schedule was not done yet it was not a conflict of intrest (Turned out he wound up with her in 8th Grade for math also). But he does well with teachers he knows (and know him). So a requirment of mine to the tutoring agency was a teacher that was from his Middle school

I've paid $60/hr for one on one. The tutor was a teacher in the school system whose goal was for my DD to understand what she was doing, not just drill it. Lots of guided practice, lots of explanations. Some of the best money we've spent.

$60/hr is the going rate for one-on-one tutoring in my neck of the woods.

It's around $100 an hour in my city. Speaking of math, are any of you finding that your otherwise very bright child is having a hard time in Math? My child is struggling in this subject. She forgets what she was taught the day before. She makes careless calculation errors. She feels "dumb". This is a kid with many strengths in other areas. We haven't resorted to tutoring yet, but I think we should.

It depends on where you live. My friend in GA pays $40.00 an hour for her 4th grader to be tutored by a teacher in math.

High school students are frequently willing and eager to do it for less. My son got $10.00 an hour to tutor a middle schooler in math.

Depends also on the level of math. I would not expect to pay the same for tuturing in high school calculus that I would for elementary school basic math.

As a college student in Manhattan I was paid $10/hour to tutor a dyslexic 6th grader in everything.

Now I feel kind of jipped!

I think the university kids get about $30/hr to turtor high school kids.

A good tutor is a good way to avoid parent kid arguments about home work etc. Personally if I were tutoring, I would insist that when I arrive that the kid has a tidy room, bed made, desk clear, light on. No TV in the bed room. I figure if they can't be bothered making that effort then they are not serious about improving acadmically.
