I make a pretty mean cheese grits breakfast casserole for when DH's family is visiting (Texans and all of course). Otherwise, I don't make them. DH will make them at least once a week.

My two favorite food groups: butter and cheese. Which I'm working mighty hard at cutting down on.......I have friends who are "chocoholics"...not me...I'd pick cheese almost any day over chocolate.
That reminds me of the ONLY time I've ever had Vegemite. We were staying with DH's best friend and his wife (they live in England). That's what they had for breakfast - Vegemite on toast. Gives me the umpha lumphas thinking about it.
So yes, there are some things you definitely acquire a taste for growing up in certain regions. Okra grosses me out as well.
Grits... not my favorite. I think you have to grow up with some foods. Vegemite sandwich, anyone?
I'm a Bovril girl myself, but since Mad Cow has put a stop to importing that I do lower my standards to Vegemite or Marmite out of desperation. Fave is vegemite and cucumber sandwiches.
