We where never allowed to have a trampoline either. Come to think of it we really never where allowed to jump on them. I remember one time we where allowed. Everyone stood in line, took a turn, bounced three time straight u and down and then got to the end of the line.

I was always more of a fan of swings.

Sorry Straw, poor thing, I hope it's not too painful? I'm assuming she fell off it, just curious if it had a net? I know those things are not a guarantee, just wondered?

Yes, it had a net, that's why I wasn't as hesitant to not allow it. I did not see what exactly happened, but apparently she landed on the edges, where the wires are. If that makes sense..the part that's usually blue on a trampoline. I guess that even if they have a net, injuries can still happen!

I've never broken a bone so I don't exactly know how painful it is, but the way she held her arm tight to her body (apparently, that's the natural instinct in humans if they break/injure their arm) and described the cracking noise just made me shudder. We have an appointment with the orthopedist on Thursday.. should be interesting.

Thanks- I keep telling myself that, but it was such a preventable thing! However, I do feel very lucky it wasn't something more serious such as a neck injury! And the other "good" thing is she won't need surgery to get pins, nor was there any nerve damage.

So sorry straw - and everyone is right - not your fault.

Shower her with attention and make it seem like it's not a big deal! My DS broke his leg ski racing when he was in the fifth grade. Cast up to his hip for 4 weeks, half cast for 4 weeks, walking boot for 4 weeks. So it could be worse! But it's never fun to go through that - that is one event I will never, ever forget. That being said, he was showered with gifts, cards, etc. which helped slightly. Find some special things to do with her since she can't play soccer.

Sorry for your daughter straw! My daughter missed out on four summers because she was injured shortly after the weather started to get nice out. I guess she'd get over excited playing outside after being cooped up all winter. At least your daughter's summer isn't completely ruined because she will still have July and August to enjoy swimming and such. Just get her through the hump---schedule lots and lots of playdates for the next eight weeks.

Thanks everyone! We will have to make the best out of this crummy situation- at least she can still hang out and walk around outside. All of the neighborhood kids are super nice- I'm sure they'll make her feel included even if she can't do whatever they're doing It'll be interesting at school tomorrow though, she broke her right arm and is also right handed. Not sure how that'll work..

On the bright side, if everything heals correctly, the sling will come off before July!

I'm right handed. I broke my right elbow in 7th grade in the fall. I had a full cast on all winter. I don't recall having a problem with not being able to write. They must have made accomodations for me. I'm sure they'll work something out for your daughter.

Apparently nothing can stop kids from trying to have fun. When my kids were on crutches, they'd still roam the neighborhood with their friends. They got terrible sores under their armpits and on their wrists from the crutches. Even then, they'd still be out there. They'd wrap tshirts on the crutches for extra padding. They'd do whatever it took to keep themselves mobile so they could go outside and still have fun with their friends.

I'm glad your daughter will be out of the sling before the summer gets the hottest.

I broke my leg in kindergarten. I still walked to school on crutches every day. the only thing I remember feeling like I was missing out on was the end-of-year sprinkler party.
