There's nothing wrong with scary costumes, cowboys with guns, witches, indians, etc.

It made me sick to see kids in elementary school go as bugs. Who really wants to be a bug?
Believe it or not, my younger daughter was a bumble bee one year and a ladybug another year. I made the ladybug costume, borrowed the bee costume from a friend. My older DD went for cheerleader, witch, etc when she was younger. When she was 12, she made her own witch costume (with a little help from me).

Well, this isn't exactly what I meant by 'politically correct' bug costumes for elementary school.

I was talking about the elementary school aged bug costumes:

Did you say PC originally? If so, I missed it. In any event, my sister is going as a mix between the examples you've posted.

I believe it. I'm sure she looked great and had a fantastic time in those bug costumes.

I'm sure most people here have children who went as bugs. After all, the politically correct costume propaganda has been going on for a while.

You know what I mean though. Halloween isn't supposed to be 'nice' and 'cute.' It's supposed to be scary!

Ugh. I was a doodlebug for Halloween when I was 6 or 7. I ended up looking like a tick. Don't ask me why my mom wanted me to look like a doodlebug. It's been over 30 years and she still can't explain herself.

I don't think either is appropriate for the costumes of preteen girls. But are there really that many people out there who look at these costumes for, say, 11 year old girls and think that they're age-appropriate?

And to another poster: I don't care how adult WOMEN dress, but these aren't women -- they're girls. We're talking 11, 12 years old here. Women (and I would include older teens in that) can make their own decisions about their bodies and their clothes. But it's not unreasonable to expect that younger kids still need some boundaries. If you're not old enough to have sex then you shouldn't be dressing in an overtly sexy outfit. (and I think that goes for both boys and girls, but boys DON'T get bombarded with these sorts of costumes, which I think is a real double-standard)
