Why couldn't your child just ask fellow students where they bought the folder so you could buy it also.
They were out by the time we got there and didn't order any more of that shade of green. that's the attitude the teachers had, too, if everyone else could find it, why couldn't I? Honestly, I went to every store in town. He entered about 2 weeks late, you'd think they could have bent a little.
Try as I might I simply could not find the right shade of green folder for my ds last year. the teacher wanted a specific shade of green, to "help the sutdents be better organized'. she wanted all spelling in a green folder. Well, she felt it "helped" the students to organize the work they turned in if they all had the same color.
funny, ds was always "missing assignments" even though we worked on them together. I even kept copies. Teacher kept insisting he didn't turn the work in. She then wanted me to have him evaluated for ADD. I even went with him to school and placed his spelling homework in the pile, along with the other green folders, albeit a slightly different shade. Then I saw an aide would take the "off color" folders out of the pile and the kid was marked down for "not following directions". How petty can you get! I complained to the principal, finally found the right shade of green. she even said to me what kind of example were we as parents setting by not following directions? hey, if I can't find it, I can't find it, I went to at least 10 stores, even asked her if she could order it I would pay for it. I didn't make any points by suggesting to her and the principal that if they wanted such specific items, buy them in bulk then re sell them to the kids, rather than penalize those hapless students who's parents "don't follow directions".
that's ridiculous. If she wants to be that specific she should buy them herself. this year the teacher asked for $2.00 to buy everyone the same kind of supply box. I hope I at least get the box at the end of the year.

The teacher was just on a power kick, and my ds took the fall for it.
I don't know what kind of calculator kids need in school these days (we weren't allowed to use them in class when I was school-age), but you can get a TI=1795 SV for around $12 USD.
I remember being introduced to the scientific calculator in HS. Not sure when I had to buy my own. I still have my HP scientific calculator and I graduated 19 years ago. I only use it for my check book now.
