Are people born with a criminal mind or do they learn to be a criminal?

No one is born with any mindset. They devlop as a product of their environment.

I got all excited looking at the title coz I thought it was talking about my current favorite show "Criminal Minds" lol.

Oh to answer: both. Chemical imbalance in some leaning towards psychotic tendencies and then some are born in a crime-ridden environment that along with peer pressure and lack of parental input, could turn that person into a life of crime eventually.

When was the last time you heard about a young child committing a serious criminal act, like an armed robbery, or murder?

Like AliceJB said, kids are not born criminals, they're taught to be that way by their peers, society and lack of good parenting in their growing years. Most importantly, by not being taught right from wrong by what's written in the Bible, and by not knowing that they will be punished for their criminal deeds.

I always assumed it was a little of both. I think a kids environment has more to do with what sort of adult they become....but sometimes a person is just born a with an odd set of genes. They can overcome it, but some don't.

I pretty much agree with this. I think both genes and environment are in play. Some people come from very abusive backgrounds and yet, as adults, are determined not to do to their own children what was done to them. Other children come from stable, loving homes and reach adulthood with no conscience to guide their behavior.

An 8 year-old kid killing his parents in November of 2008 - That is very rare, the majority of voilent criminal acts are committed by adults, who turned to crime for one, or many of the reasons that were mentioned in this thread.

It's unfortunate that for some, crime is a career and a lifestyle. Many commit criminal acts so they can be housed, and fed 3 meals every day.
