Hello all, I am writing to find out if there is a way to discover someone's criminal past?

Currently, I am hiring someone to do some odd jobs. I know that they have a criminal past. Is there a way that I can discretely find out what their criminal record looks like? I am not opposed to using a pay site, if it works.

I want to help as much as I can, if said person is honest. But I am not interested in helping someone out if they are being dishonest about their past.

Anyone?

Just google it. There's several sites that charge a small fee to get you whatever information you want.

I found out recently in my state you can Google the state Circuit Court Access. As long as you agree to the terms and you know certain information of the person you want to look up. It's also free!

Go to the court website for your area. Their docket should come up.

Thanks for all the tips. I'm dealing with a possibly alias/AKA, so I don't know that it's as simple as Googling it...

As I mentioed previously go into google, type in background checks and you'll find information on getting what you want. Here is a typical site: Background Check & People Search Powered by Intelius

You can go into some local courts, but they won't be as thorough as the company I listed. They check all over the country for you. Local courts will only give you local information for that district.

If this is someone you are hiring, you should just tell him that you always do background checks . . . then go to intellius and for a reasonable fee, you can check the dude out. If he is using his real SS#, doesn't matter what alias he is using. Also, that will tell you quickly if he IS using an alias.

Now, if you don't feel comfortable doing that (and getting his SS#) . . . there really is not going to be much of a way to check him out - if he truly is using an alias.

Sometimes you can't. In our state, after a certain period of time their records are sealed and no one can access them except the criminal or potential employers, so you may have to be a business or something to get into them (maybe you are, I don't know). I dated a guy years ago that turned out to be a child molester. He's married, and I'm pretty sure his wife doesn't know. I wanted to send his records to her before they had children, but they're sealed. It happened before Megan's law took effect, so he doesn't have to register as a sexual predator anywhere.
