Being a young teenager of the 80's
I was so up to date with Popular culture
Yes I even permed my hair in the early 80's so I looked like I belonged in some pathetic Boy band
Not long after that had the Don Johnson (Miami vice) unshaven look going there for quite a while
So you get the picture, but somewhere along the line I got old
When did I realized I was no longer hip ?
Well it wasn't that long ago I would still go jogging with a sony walkman (yes the ones with the cassette tapes)
I would certainly get some strange looks from the ipod crowd
Now I was just reading a thread where everyone has their citydata page set to default style beige (set at bottom left corner of this page)
while mine is still stuck in the 'so yesteday' blue default style
Guess this is just another example where I'm behind the times
Lets see if I can answer this one correctly.
Ive never really cared what style, fashion, my looks were while growing up, and still dont. My style says its me. Simple, cheap and a pair of jeans or pheasant skirt can be worn anywhere anytime, in any era.
The only reason Ive ever permed my hair was because its so thin and cant ever do anything with it, always looks tousled because of the limpness. Short hair is out of the question. Im way due for a perm soon too.
Heck if it were up to me Id still be playing records and using analog dial knob stereo, but they dont make these things anymore.
I realized I was no longer hip (if I ever was in the first place!) when I was reading someone else's post.
She had used <3 in a sentence & I just thought it was a typo. Then I saw <3 again by another poster.
Gave the old brain cells a good scratch & finally got it. Heart. Love.

I <3 that I am not the only CD oldie around here!
It's okay piper - I didn't get that until just now!!
un-hip? No way! The grandkids say I am "kool "...I think that is the new word for "hip"..Then of course "hip" has taken on a new meaning in recent years as in "broken"
I'm still hip..........in 1969. I have not cut my hair since then. I refuse to listen to that wrap crap. I still dress a bit Hippish but not with the bell bottoms. I still wear a peace sign every single day...bar none. I still dig the Woodstock bands who are still around today. I have music all around me.
I still play, my friends play, we jamb, I am married to one of the greatest rock groupies next to Sweet Sweet Connie that Grand Funk sung about. What that means is I have more dirt on the rock stars then the rag magazines at the grocery checkout have. I have access to back stage of some of the greatest rock bands. I have met many of them, I have worked with some of them. I know who is an azzhole and I know who is nice despite what they show on stage.
I am a Hippy and will always be a Hippy. For those of you old enough to know what I am talking about you know what I mean.
I've always the noticed the people who were really trendy tend to feel lost years later. You're not unhip, just follow your own cool style.
