haha I've noticed that too but that is one of the reasons I like this forum. Older demographics and hence more people disagreeing. Older folks are still in the way things were done back in the 1950s,60s and 70s. Times were a lot different back then, mainly marriage actually meant something, cell phones didn't exist (more direct communication), myspace/facebook didn't exist (makes it super easy to cheat), getting a divorce was a major taboo (people were willing to work out problems in the relationship, not just threatening the other person with divorce hoping they'll change) among other things.

Third wave feminism essentially destroyed the male/female dynamic when it comes to marriage. A man needs a woman to be loyal to him if he is to get married. Third wave feminism made women think more independently and become self-reliant. For a marriage minded man, this is a huge problem because it means a man cannot provide or protect her (obsolete way of thinking but it is hard wired into the male brain). Likewise, since women think more independently they now are a lot more promiscuous as long as they can avoid the social stigmas of such actions. For a single man who doesn't want to get married, this is the holy grail because it means you can get women to have sex with you and you don't have to worry about paying for them (because they can provide for themselves).

Of course when I go spouting out about how it is so much a better move for a man these days to remain childless and unmarried I get attacked mainly because of the older demographic. When I post on forums that have a lower age demographic (18-25) everyone agrees with me about how marriage is essentially obsolete. It isn't that fun when everyone agrees with you!

This is a great thread; and Chowhound, I'm kind of digging the demographics here too. I fall in the high end of the age range you refer to and you are absolutely right. These current times, those past times = the best times.

Killer, Your social attitudes are archaic.

Even though you are young and think of yourself as having contemporary attitudes, that statement could have been be spoken by my grandmother, and I'm almost 70.

Interesting the age breakdown.....also interesting we have a PG rating, of which I'm not a fan, esp given there is only 3 members 0-22.
