My most longstanding is wash, as washing machine, wash your ears, Washington, etc.

People there is no R in the word(s).

There is a woman running for senate this year who runs slimy ads about her opponent, who has the seat now, and she repeatedly tells me she will do a better job than he will in Warshington.

There isn't a snowball's chance in Hell that I will vote for this person.

I can't stand the American way of starting with "I was like", "I felt like", as in "I was like: oh my god". Or: I was like: that is beautiful.

I'm dutch speaking but I really dislike it. Some, people here use (in dutch) the same stupid quote to express a feeling: "Ik had zoiets van:..." (Translation: "I had something like:"
Try something else! It it very pover to use it.

Oh, another one: The euphemism "issue" (issues).
I had "issues" with my husband.

What the hell? issues?? Maybe you had a different opinion, a discussion, quarrels or maybe it was a big fight? Maybe divorcing is the next step??

hmm, "issues"

I was probably in my 30's before someone pointed out that I drop the 's' of off most my words.
50 cent...instead of 50 cents. I lived in the south so long I didn't even realize I did it. This leaves me not being able to make any comments on how anyone else pronounces their words.

I agree. For me, "I was like" preceding a statement is right up there with "Y'know what I'm sayin'?" or "Y'see what I'm sayin'?" after someone makes a statement. It's stupid!

How about misuse of the words "it's" and "its"? The sentence above corrected, should read, "I don't think it happens often enough to warrant its own acronym . . .."

I just noticed that this thread is old and was resurrected yesterday. FYI, folks, there are a number of similar threads in the Writing forum.

Yes, like over a year old - boy it must have taken quite a while to find a year old thread in order to revive it
