Say you spent time at said place and there's something that keeps drawing you back to that location. Usually a combination of work/life style/recreation/ or family. Of course for most , the relocation comes with a struggle of some kind and it feels like it will be a long time before it happens.
For me, I keep thinking about the Phoenix area and the southwest in general. It's so much different than the east and midwest. I have been back and forth on pros/cons , but the pros always win over the cons.
Southern or coastal Oregon - Medford, Grants Pass, Roseburg, Coos Bay, somewhere like that. Getting a cabin and just disconnecting from life sounds alluring right now.
Also I guess I find it interesting that a part of the country that's so far from any major cities and doesn't have any large universities can feel relatively cosmopolitan and open-minded. Maybe it just gets a lot of tourism, and the proximity of I-5 means a lot of people are coming through that area even if they aren't specifically traveling there. (But then the Central Valley of CA, also along I-5, has multiple major cities yet feels much more provincial and conservative.)

I think about this every day. Life has just gotten too busy.
Chicago -- I love that city, and my son lives there. OK, maybe not so nice in January and February, but the rest of the year is just fine with me.
However, my one and only grandchild lives here in central Florida, and I am very involved in her life. So I'm not ever going to move full-time to Chicago, but I visit once a year. And maybe when the grandchild gets older, my visits to Chicago will get a little longer.
I long to be out West. Unfortunately, my fiance got hurt on the job & we're still waiting to hear from his employer's insurance. Our plan is to live in the California desert while we work, buy land either in NorCal or northern NV, and build an off grid cabin. If my screenplays make lots of money, our dream will come true sooner. Until then, we will live in an RV on his cousin's property in Palm Springs.
