I've found that if I set up some sort of little reward for when I'm done with a dreaded task, it helps.
Dreaded task: Cut portion sizes and walk more
Reward: New clothes!
In my case,
Dreaded task: schedule foot surgeries; go through 7 months of rehab and recovery.
Reward: Two new, pain-free feet by summer!
(One down; one to go.)
