Hi, kids! I hope you all had an excellent weekend!
Scroll on down and check out Today's Tip.

PETS AND PLASTIC BAGS

I recently saw a bit of the TV show, America's Funniest Videos, and something on it has bothered me since then. They showed a montage of funny pet videos. Some of the video clips were innocent and hilarious, but there were several clips that involved pets with their heads in plastic bags. The poor animals - cats and dogs - curiously poked their heads into plastic bags and then became terrified when the bags stayed on their heads. In at least one clip, the owner put the bag on the cat's head. The terrified animals ran around like crazy, sometimes running into furniture or walls, until the bag fell off or the owner finally caught them and removed it. As the studio audience howled with laughter, I was shocked and disappointed that someone would see a terrified animal as entertainment.

Anyway, my Tip for today is to always keep plastic bags away from your pets. Don't let your pets play with them, and don't leave them lying around where your pets can get to them. Plastic bags are not toys, and, just as with small children, they are a serious hazard. Your beloved pet could suffocate if stuck in a plastic bag! And if even if your cat or dog does not suffer any physical problems from having a bag stuck on its head, there's nothing funny about frightening the bejeebers out of a pet by putting a plastic bag on its head, or allowing it to play in such a manner that it may get a bag stuck on its head.

Love your pets and always protect them from household hazards!

I thoroughly agree with this tip! It's usually boys or men heard laughing in those videos and I suppose boys will be boys but it's not funny. Boy or man may say, "Hey! I'm watching. I'll take it off. What's the big deal?" It is a big deal. As you've noted, a terrified animal is not entertainment except for people who enjoy abusing animals. Those videos show more than plastic bags. They'll have cats and dogs with their faces in cups or buckets, all sorts of things where they've looked and sniffed and gotten their faces/heads wedged.

I bring home groceries in the plastics bags, then I roll them into a ball and put them away.

Safety first for kids and pets! Always!

Good tip! I try my best to remember to take my canvas bags fro trader Joe's when I go to the store but do still get a lot of the plastic ones. There are still just so many uses for them. But I do keep them up away from the pets and inside OFF THE GROUND!!!!

Thanks for the tip Pam! A terrified animal is certainly not entertaining to me. I always put my plastic bags away as soon as I empty them so my dog can't get them.

I can imagine. I've written before about the dangers of stuff like plastic bags and plastic 6- or 8-pack bottle and can holders when wildlife can get to them. I hadn't thought about livestock being in danger as well. Thanks for the reminder that all creatures are vulnerable to humans' carelessness, Jezer.

Just as a reminder - when you throw away plastic bags and plastic bottle holders, take some scissors and cut the handles and rings so that they can't get caught around the neck of an innocent creature. Don't just assume that they'll get buried in the trash heap where no animal can get to them.
