Both John Adams and Thomas Jefferson, the only two signers of the Declaration of Independence who
later served as president, both died on the same day - July 4, 1826 which was the 50th anniversary of
the Declaration.

On his death bed John Adams uttered his last words. They were "Thomas Jefferson survives."

It is rumored that upon Adam's death the messenger dispatched to carry the news to Jefferson's Virginia
home actually passed a messenger dispatched from THAT site to Adam's home, also bearing sad tidings.

Thomas Jefferson and John Adams
How proud they must have been then, how sad they would be today.

BTW, I thought that miniseries was well worth the viewing. It has all the Revolutionary drama you could want: Washington's apprehension, all of the debate over what to call the first leader, Abigail Adams as a feminist, Franklin's inventions, and, my favorite, the rows between Jefferson and Hamilton.

Thanks so much for the feedback on that mini-series! I ran across it online a few days ago, but didn't know if it would be any good so I didn't watch it. Now I know what I'll be doing over the 4th while the expats and Panamanians are shooting off fireworks - Panamanians do love a celebration even when it's not theirs lol
