Got valuables in the house? Store them in your child's sock drawer instead of in your nightstand. Thieves usually search the master bedroom but leave kids' rooms untouched.
Don't hide valuables in your freezer or under your mattress. These are among the first places thieves will search.
Keep your car keys next to your bed while you sleep. If you hear a noise and suspect that someone is trying to break into your house, hit the panic button on your car key. The car alarm will sound and the burglar will flee.
Don't load up your car the night before leaving for vacation and then leave the car parked outside. This is a sure indication that your house will be empty come morning and the days to follow. Plus, the loaded car itself is a temptation for thieves. Have everything ready inside the house and pack the car at the last minute before you leave.

Gun works better and faster. And you don't need to wait for help. A car in the garage will not make much noise anyway !
