Howdy, kids! Scroll on down for Today's Tip.

HOME SECURITY STRATEGIES

Got valuables in the house? Store them in your child's sock drawer instead of in your nightstand. Thieves usually search the master bedroom but leave kids' rooms untouched.

Don't hide valuables in your freezer or under your mattress. These are among the first places thieves will search.

Keep your car keys next to your bed while you sleep. If you hear a noise and suspect that someone is trying to break into your house, hit the panic button on your car key. The car alarm will sound and the burglar will flee.

Don't load up your car the night before leaving for vacation and then leave the car parked outside. This is a sure indication that your house will be empty come morning and the days to follow. Plus, the loaded car itself is a temptation for thieves. Have everything ready inside the house and pack the car at the last minute before you leave.

Consider planting some thorny shrubs, such as rosebushes, underneath ground-floor windows. Not only will they look nice, they'll be a deter burglars.

Don't be paranoid, but just use some common sense when it comes to home security.

What valuables? You mean... money?? Diamonds??

Believe me, even 10 carats can get easily lost in the freezer

Gun works better and faster. And you don't need to wait for help. A car in the garage will not make much noise anyway !

People should travel light. Whatever is tucked safely in the trunk should be enough for travel. No??

Good tips Pam. I like the car key panic button idea. Now I don't have to push the wifes belly button (she'll be happy to hear this) to get her up to check for those strange noises...

At a police seminar one time they told us not to plant cactus or thorny bushes under the windows because of the possible need for a fire escape. Plus it's difficult to clean those windows when you have a 3 or 4 foot thorny shrub covering the window area.

You'd need a shovel to get at my valuables, and the storage costs are dirt cheap!

Good tips Pam.

Also get some motion sensor outside lights.

And a couple of timers for a lamp or two and your TV.
