Morning, All! LFM 8)

Today's Question:
Are you going to watch the Kentucky Derby on television this Saturday? Nope.

Or have you ever watched any of the triple crown races? Don't think so.

Have you ever personally been to a horse racing track? If so, where?
Yep. As a young "tween" in Michigan, Dad bought my sister and I horses after the divorce, and mine (Drifter) was a quarter horse-morgan, unbroken from a rez in AZ. He hired a trainer to work with both of us, which was a lot of fun. We learned he was pretty fast while doing barrel racing, so the trainer started working him at the track. (I didn't ride him for those races, because Dad was afraid I'd get hurt.)

We went to a couple of tracks there, watching Drifter and also a couple of professional races. It was very exciting.

Dad went bankrupt and the trainer took Drifter for unpaid invoices. He over trained him for racing and the horse was later put down for injuries.

Since then, I've gone to Seattle's Emerald Downs, but knowing how racing animals get worked it has sort of taken the thrill out of it for me.

Bonus Question:
When packing for a trip have you ever:
Packed anything unusual? Just clothes, books, camera
Forgotten something important? Nope
Wanted to take something you couldn't? My dog(s)
Lost your luggage or had it lost for you? Airline lost, but it was found the next day
Had your bags searched? Of course
Had something break open or leak inside? Nope
Had a loved one pack something you didn't find until later?
Anything else?

Foodie Question:
Currently there are TV shows and bakeries feature nothing but cupcakes.
Have you fallen to the cupcake craze of the last couple of years? Nope - not a big cake fan, unless it's covered with ice cream.

Just for fun:
When you were a kid did you ever think magic was real? I've always been a "thinker" and would sit wondering how the magician did that one...
What's the funniest thing you remember believing?
That "Seeing is believing."

Today’s Word:
Turkish delight - noun
a candy made of fruit juice and gelatin, cubed and dusted with sugar

Sounds yucky -- I've never liked jellied fruit candies.

A Picture for Today:
I took this picture of a red foot bridge in the Japanese Garden area of the Memphis Botanical Garden in May of a previous year.

Very nice.

Today's Question:
Are you going to watch the Kentucky Derby on television this Saturday?

No

Or have you ever watched any of the triple crown races?

No

Have you ever personally been to a horse racing track? If so, where?

Yes. Belmont (NY) and Charles Town (West Virginia)

Bonus Question:
When packing for a trip have you ever:
Packed anything unusual?

I have to pack 4 different battery chargers. They aren't unusual, just that I have to take 4 of them is unusual.

Forgotten something important?

Don't jinx me.

Wanted to take something you couldn't?

Yes, I'd like to take a fishing rod and tackle with me but I can't figure out how to transport the rod so I don't have to take it in and out of the car with me every single day and it won't make someone want to break into the car if they see it. This is only because every night I'll be in a different motel.

Lost your luggage or had it lost for you?

I do all road trip vacations so no, on the vacation front but one time my luggage was missing on a work trip. Lucky for me though, it was lost on the air trip home. They delivered it the next day.

Had your bags searched?

Yes.

Had something break open or leak inside?

Yes.

Had a loved one pack something you didn't find until later?
Anything else?

Nobody packs for me. Even when I was married I did my own packing.

Foodie Question:
Currently there are TV shows and bakeries feature nothing but cupcakes.
Have you fallen to the cupcake craze of the last couple of years?

No. In fact, a cupcake place in town went out of business. I had never been there.

What are your favorite kinds of cupcakes?

No favorites. As long as there is no coconut, I'm good.

Just for fun:
When you were a kid did you ever think magic was real?

No.

What's the funniest thing you remember believing?

That journalists were always honest/truthful. These days I rate used car salesmen and ambulance chasing lawyers ahead of them.

Today's Question:
Are you going to watch the Kentucky Derby on television this Saturday? Nope.
Or have you ever watched any of the triple crown races? I may have watched a Triple Crown race or two many years ago, but I don't recall for sure.
Have you ever personally been to a horse racing track? If so, where? Yes. I occasionally go to Balmoral Park in Crete, Illinois (south burb of Chicago) for harness racing. Very fun!
Bonus Question:
When packing for a trip have you ever:
Packed anything unusual? I don't think so.
Forgotten something important? Yes! Forgot my underwear once. That was in 2001, and my friends and I still laugh about it. First day out on our road trip, we had to stop at a department store so I could buy undies. *lol*
Wanted to take something you couldn't? I always wish I could take more with me. It's difficult for me to pack light!
Lost your luggage or had it lost for you? Note yet. (Fingers crossed.)
Had your bags searched? Yes. In Winnipeg, Canada in 2002. They searched my carry-on in my presence when the scanner detected something shaped like a knife. I couldn't imagine what it was, and, of course, it was packed at the very bottom of my overstuffed satchel. It was a blown-glass, icicle-shaped Christmas ornament that was hand decorated with a medium that had small amounts of real gold and silver in it. That's what the scanner found. What a pain in the neck that was. I think of that every year when I get out that ornament.
Had something break open or leak inside? Nope.
Had a loved one pack something you didn't find until later? Nope. I've always packed my own bag. It's not as though one of my cats would get off her fat butt and do it for me.
Anything else? Nope.

Foodie Question:
Currently there are TV shows and bakeries feature nothing but cupcakes. Have you fallen to the cupcake craze of the last couple of years? Nope. I'd rather have a cookie or a piece of pie.
What are your favorite kinds of cupcakes? If I was going to have one, I'd choose chocolate with chocolate chips and chocolate frosting! I mean, if you're gonna do it, do it right!
Just for fun:
When you were a kid did you ever think magic was real? Probably.
What's the funniest thing you remember believing? Just things "disappearing," I guess. I always preferred "magic" which was sleight of hand, as opposed to the more showy stuff like cutting people in half or making buildings "disappear."

Today’s Word:
Turkish delight - noun
a candy made of fruit juice and gelatin, cubed and dusted with sugar
Some of the ethnic babas in my neighborhood made this when I was growing up. It sucked.

Today Is:
Hug Your Cat Day I did that this morning and will do it bunches this evening!
Garden Meditation Day I love to spend time in my garden. Will do that this weekend.
Kite Day Flying kites is way fun! Last time I did that was 2 summers ago.
National Public Radio Day I don't listen to this. No particular reason; I've just never tuned in.
Press Freedom Day
Raspberry Tart Day Now we're talkin'! YUM!
Scrapbook Day I had one of these when I was a teenager.
Sun Day The sun is out here at the moment. Nice.

Have a wonderful day, everybody!

Mornin' all!

Today's Question:
Are you going to watch the Kentucky Derby on television this Saturday?

Or have you ever watched any of the triple crown races?

Have you ever personally been to a horse racing track? If so, where?

Bonus Question:
When packing for a trip have you ever:
Packed anything unusual?
I like to bring home a small rock from each place I visit.
Forgotten something important?
Nah. I can probably buy anything I absolutely need if I forget it. Then I'll put the spare in the camping gear!
Wanted to take something you couldn't?
I always want to take my pets, but cats don't like change and I won't fly an animal anyway.
Lost your luggage or had it lost for you?
Almost, on this last trip! We were switching airlines at Tornoto. They told us the customs line was very long and to wait in line for our bags and they'd bring them to us there. If we got to the front of the line before they found our bags, we were to step aside and let others go until our bags came. We were just about to the front of the line when they brought our bags!
Had your bags searched?
Yes
Had something break open or leak inside?
Yep. Very unpleasant. Especially on the way to your destination! Everything gets the ziplock bag treratment now!
Had a loved one pack something you didn't find until later?
Not that I can remember.
Anything else?

Foodie Question:
Currently there are TV shows and bakeries feature nothing but cupcakes.
Have you fallen to the cupcake craze of the last couple of years?
No. I don't bake much. Unless it's a gooey, cheesy casserole!

What are your favorite kinds of cupcakes?
I'll go with either white with a little bit of white frosting, or yellow with chocolate frosting.

Just for fun:
When you were a kid did you ever think magic was real?
Not the David Copperfield kind. But you can melt a chocolate bar, or make a candle flame dance if you know what you're doing.

What's the funniest thing you remember believing?
Probably the one about the little people in the radio and TV.

Today in History:
1494 Columbus arrived at Jamaica. He called it "St. Iago" or St. James.
