No matter how small the bill is, the minimum I tip is $5. Most of the time it's more than that. Recently my 75 year old Mother took our entire family of 15 to Olive Garden. The waitress was wonderful, and really pampered us. The bill was over $300 and the tip was already included. Somewhere around 50 or 60 bucks. My older brother started to leave another tip on the table and my Mother yelled at him, "Don't you dare leave a tip it was already added in."

The poor girl was standing right behind her, and I wanted to crawl under the table. Dear old mom doesn't understand that the waitress has to share that with the bartender, and cooks too. Anyhow, I made my way to the men's room and slipped her a twenty without anyone knowing. I later found out that two of my brothers did the same thing. Even though I hate their food, I know that I can at least go back to Olive Garden and not be embarrassed.

I have a big problem tipping at certain places!
At the take out counter at Little Caesars the have a tip jar.
At the Dunkin Donuts, where you already pay .99c for a donut, the have a tip jar.
At the Starbucks the have a tip jar, and if you only tip the leftover change they might look you funny!

WTF! None of these place should have a tip jar IMO.
Their service does not justify a tip. When I pick up my pizza, I should not be expected to tip, PERIOD!
Maybe if I go to the same Starbucks everyday, and I get to know the people, I won't mind tipping them......

Seeing as I was once a waitress (many years ago), I usually tip 20%, more if exceptional service. And please don't ask me if I need change! If my bill is $12.00 and I hand you $20.00, do you really think I am going to leave a $8.00 tip?

15%

If the economy gets worse, restaurants might actually be happy to have customers (much less complain that they should tip more)
