Someone mentioned Gilligan's Island on another thread and it reminded me of something funny. Did you know that the words to the songs, Amazing Grace, the theme from Gilligan's Island and The House of the Rising Sun can be used interchangeably with the different tunes? In music, it's called "meter."

Try it out! Take the words from Amazing Grace and sing them to the tune of Gilligan's Island. They all fit. What a hoot! Or, sing the words to the tune of House of the Rising Sun. Or, try singing the words from Gilligan's Island to the tune of Amazing Grace. You can mix and match any of those three songs. Too funny! My sister and I have sung these songs this way in comedic shows at church functions. We always get a lot of laughs!

I've heard of that but didn't know what it was called.

Sort of like "Twinkle, Twinkle Little Star" and "The ABC Song".

Hmmm.. Let me try it..

Just Sit Right back Amazing Grace How Sweet The Sound
And you'll hear a tale That saved a wretch like me
That started from this tropic port When I once was lost
Aboard this tiny ship Through many dangers, toils and snares
...
That didn't work very well, I guess I'd better keep my day job...

As a kid we sang Amazing Grace to the tune of the Coca Cola song.

When I do this, I use all of the words from Amazing Grace, just to the rhyme of the new song- not interspersing between the two. You can do that too, it just isn't the way I've done it.

Yeah, that definitely works Pam! Of course, I didn't sing anything out loud, just in my head. If I actually try to sing that would be bad and might even scare my dog...lol.
