Wow...wish I had known that years ago when I used to go to bars. There would have been lots of free drinks in those songs.....................

Aha! Sort of like singing "O Sacred Head" to the tune of "The Yellow Rose of Texas." Or singing the Doxology to the tune of "Hernando's Hideaway."

Back in the 1960s my then-boyfriend played a Baptist hymn on the piano in sync with "When a Man Loves a Woman" by Percy Sledge. I wish I could remember what hymn it was, but the chords harmonized perfectly.
