Rather interesting critters. I have a feeder and they can empty it of sugar water in a week's time.

When they can hover, fly backwards, and move quick that's a good tradeoff from not being able to walk.

Wow - I did not know that. How fascinating! I've had hummers sit still for long periods of time on shrubs just outside my window, but now that you mention it, I've never seen one walk! Cool fact, Coastal!

They flit around up to 25mph and can flutter their wings around 50 - 60 times per second. They are the most fascinating of all the birds IMO.

Actually did know that. Had bird books so I'd know more about the birds eating at my feeder in CO and of course I had feeders for the hummers. Here they just drink from all the flowers.
