Brush your teeth with Baking soda to remove stains and whiten teeth. Do this about once a week. You can make a paste with water or just dampen your brush with a little water. Use the baking soda as you would toothpaste. (I did this for years before all the new products came onto the market. It works wonderfully.)
Other suggested tips I have not used:
Gargle with apple cider vinegar daily especially in the morning. Then brush as usual. This will help to remove stains and whiten teeth especially effective in killing bacteria in the mouth and on the gums.
Mix salt and lime juice as a paste. Brush as with toothpaste.
Rub the inside of a banana peel onto teeth in a circular motion for approximately two minutes. Combine with salt if preferred for extra whitening.
Chew apples, carrots and celery to help get rid of stains. (Not sure if you are supposed to do all three at one time.....)
Rub fresh sage leaves on your teeth to clean them and remove stains.
You can also use hydrogen peroxide as a mouth wash: take a spoonful to an 1/8th of a cup of peroxide and use this as you would mouth wash. You will see the bubbles as your teeth get cleaned killing germ and brightening your teeth.
Good tips Glory! I remember my grandmother giving those exact same tips. When she died at the age of 78, she still had her own teeth and they looked pretty darn good, too!
Great tips GloryB! I knew about the baking soda but not the other ones.
