I saw a commercial in which a group of gentlemen declared it to be an unwritten man law that men over 25 can't use emoticons. Is this an unjust rule? What are your thoughts on grown men who use emoticons?

What commercial was that Twista? Personally, I see nothing wrong with a grown male using emoticons. I find emoticons useful in online forums as it helps the reader to determine the context of what you are saying as they cannot see your expression. Sarcasm could get lost in text if there wasn't some indication (such as ). If you wanted to convey something tongue in cheek, it might be useful to use a or or .
I think the world would be a better place if emoticons popped up over people's heads while they talked.
As far as grown men using them... I think everyone should use them. It helps to clarify one's real intent seeing as how it's hard to know what attitude one will infuse into something when reading it.

I agree! I wish Facebook had them, in fact! I will say, however, that my husband doesn't like them at all...so...maybe women do like using them more than men. Who knows? (need "shrug" emoticon here!)
Yes, Please use emoticons! They make the tone of a post so much easier to read. This site needs more of them.
