We have 150' of conservation to the rear of our home (east), and 200 acres of natural forest on one side (north). We bought a low-voltage "bug catcher" from Home Depot, and it's ok, but doesn't do anything special. One of the guys at the pool store said he used the one that was propane powered when out hunting - said it really did the trick. May try that....but bugs really haven't been much of an issue. I'm really surprised considering the dense foliage we have so close by. Also remember, the screen will drop your water temp by about 10 degrees.

Good point regarding the screen and it dropping the pool 10 degrees. We are in SW MCO and have alligators, owls, snakes, sand hill cranes, turkeys, hogs...the developer built around the swamps, so enter Bugville. Our exposure is NE in front and SW in back and let me tell you it is hotter than fire in the afternoons...I never thought this heat would be so intense compared to So.Fla. Of course, we are in central Florida and there are no ocean breezes.. Bottom line, you would get your monies worth if you had a pool here.

Understand what you're saying....our previous home in Winter Park faced W in the back....you're right, it's HOT!!! Fortunately (I think), we now front W. I love the wildlife....our first weekend in our home, we saw a flock of wild turkey running across the back yard....last Sunday afternoon we watched 3 does feeding about 15' behind our backyard fence. The downside is that our neighbor had his back yard torn up by hogs, and snakes look for dry ground (like our pool deck) when it rains - but that's only happened a couple of times.

Hmm....we're in SE Orlando, regularly have nice breezes.....

i had artesian do a pool for us and what a fantastic job they did! feel free to pm me, i have some helpful info for you and a contact there! our pool was built on a 45 degree slope in our backyard. we also have a salt system pool which only costs 15.00 a year for the salt, the only "chemical" we have to buy. we paid 39,000 but included the screen, retaining wall, and extra decking

That's a great price from Artesian. Do you mind me asking how long ago that was? I got a quote from them 2 years ago for an average pool with screen - no extras. It was in the neighborhood of 50K.

Rholborn: Hi..Glad to hear of another Pool Company other than Pools By Jade. They seem to have the market sewn up in this neighborhood. When you find time, please PM us w/the contact name from Artesian. Sounds like a great price for the wall, screen, and deck. Was it done in the last year? The quote we had from Jade was 29k and that was for a 18 X 28 w/no waterfall etc. Thanks for any feedback...

I just got a quote from Artesian Pools.
It was about 52k with pool, hot tub and waterfall,
rock work and screen. And this is our second quote.
The first on was with American Pools but they
would have built the pool together with our house.
They are the pool guys for our house builder.
And it was more expensive with less features.
But before we make a decision we will get some
more quotes. Probably Pools of Jade.

Thumbs up Atlas Pools

We used Atlas Pools and had a wonderful experience.

Pool, screen, waterfall, 2 fountains, Salt Water system, etc for 42K. This was last year. They kept a very clean work site and finished our pool in around 2.5 months. They have a great website with lots of photos and info.

I don't like to bad-mouth companies, but I have to warn you about Blue Haven. A simple Google search will result in site after site of complaints and service isssues.

I LOVE our pool. I can't imagine our house without it. Also, the screen doesn't necessarily lower the temp as much as 10 degrees. Our temp runs about 3 degrees cooler than our neighbors with no screen. (By the way, our water temp is 92 degrees right now).

Good luck!

I would highly advise you call Pioneer Pool Concepts and speak to Ryan. I have recommended them several times and have never had a complaint. Tell Ryan that I asked you to call. You are right to get several bids; I have found that pool companies' as well as any other contractor's prices will vary based on the ammount of business they currently have. Do not use Bob's pools or Dixie pools; I have personally had bad experiences with both. Because I am a licensed Realtor I need to tell you I do not receive any compensation for referrals to Pioneer.
