Hello. My husband has gotten a contract job starting summer 2014 about midway between between Orlando and Daytona, and we are looking for relocation. High scored schools are a must, we have children in elementary. It also has to be safe and family friendly. Can anyone give us any advice? Thanks. We'd like to travel no more than 30 minutes to his job. Thanks. (Anywhere near Daytona, Orlando, or in between).

I would suggest the Lake Mary area highest rated schools in the area. The specific schools of Wilson, Heathrow, and Crystal Lake. In the Heathrow district housing prices are premium most are in Gated neighborhoods with very low crime. The Wilson area is in West Sanford, and is generally cheaper, and just as safe. It would be nice to know you housing budget though... lol

Sanford and Lake Mary (in that order) have the best school districts, so either would be a good choice. Over the past few years Sanford's Seminole HS has moved past Lake Mary HS as the best high school in the area. Over the past several years both cities have been neck and neck in terms of Elementary/Middle School quality. Most of Lake Mary and the western 2/3 of Sanford (anything west of the 417 Toll) have great family friendly neighborhoods. The Sanford area west of I-4 is my top choice as well with nice neighborhoods and convenience to I-4.

It depends on the type of lifestyle/community you are looking for. I live in Lake Mary and commute out towards Daytona. The only positive aspect of the commute is that it is against the traffic going into Orlando. It sounds like the school system is one of the most important factors to you, therefore Lake Mary definitely will be an attractive option for you. In general, I feel that it is kind of congested for what it has to offer. You will also pay (significantly) more to live in Lake Mary than you will to live in one of the communities on the way to Daytona. I am not familiar with their school systems, so I can't make any comparisons there. Again, it really depends on your priorities as to which area will be a better fit for you.
